Savings Bonds and replica Liberty Bells

Here's a bit of Savings Bond history. During the Korean War, the U.S. Treasury commissioned 55 replica Liberty Bells. The bells were made in Annecy, France, the same town where the original Liberty Bell was cast. The replicas are the same size as the original and give off the same tone.

The bells were originally used to attract crowds as part of a marketing effort for Savings Bonds. In 1953 the marketing drive ended and the bells were given to the U.S. states and territories.
