If I want to redeem an I Bond that was bought 5/11/05, what is the earliest date I can do so outside the three-month penalty window? I don't want to lose any of the 6.73% currently being paid.

April TIPS auction yield is 2.409%

Yesterday the Treasury held an auction for additional January 2006 10-year TIPS, which have a coupon rate of 2%. The price was 96.480271, which creates an actual yield of 2.409%.

I just tried to redeem some Savings Bonds that are registered "my name POD my husband's name". The bank said this means I can't cash the bonds until my husband dies. How do I fix this so I can cash them now?

One of the comments here says that the Treasury may raise the I bond fixed base rate if the inflation component becomes uncompetitively low. Would this be a reason to hold off buying until after the next set of rates are announced?

I'm interested in putting away $20,000 for 20 to 30 years. Does it make any difference whether I put it all away at once or whether I invest say a thousand dollars a month over a 20-month period? Will my timing affect the amount I earn in the end?

I have a $10,000 Series EE Savings Bond that was purchased in August 1992 that is currently paying 6% interest and matures in August 2004. Will this bond continue to pay 6% interest beyond the maturity date of August 2004 and if not, what would the new rate be?
