Steven - Because the inflation rate was negative between Sep 08 and Mar 09, all I bonds faced a six-month period of zero interest rates. For many issues that period is in the past, but for I bonds issued in September, like yours, the zero-rate period runs from Sep 09 to Feb 10.

I have some Series I bonds from September, 2001. I notice that there was no return for the end of December. Posted January. Have these bonds quite returning interest?

Thomas - I bonds earn a composite rate of the fixed rate and the inflation rate. When the inflation rate is negative, the two can add up to zero or less, though the composite rate can't go below zero. For the record, the inflation rate for the period you're asking about is -5.56%

I have 5 " I " bonds that have shown 0% interest for the last two months. It is my understanding that a fixed % rate is included in I bonds and is set at the time of purchase and continues thru the life of the bond. My total dollar # has not changed.

Wayne - Although you don't say so, I'm going to assume you're enrolled in plan whereby money is taken out of your check each month for Savings Bonds.

If this is the case, you have to notify your employer's payroll office to change the address to which the bonds are being sent. Contacting the Treasury won't help you.

I returned from Germany last year and despite attempts, have not succeeded in having my mailing address changed as I have not received a bond in over a year. How do I get my address changed?
